I'm Bernard Lewis. In 1969 when I was about to graduate from the University of North Carolina, I was shopping for an engagement ring. Two stores in downtown Charlotte had half-carat diamonds in the window, but one was twice the price of the other. When I asked them why, it was amazing. Neither one of them could give me a real answer.

I went home thinking Well, I'm not educated in diamonds, but somebody has to be! In the Yellow Pages the first entry was "American Gem Society" and two stores were listed as members. I went to both stores and they both gave me the same explanation of quality and value. One of them offered me a job; and that's really how I became a jeweler.

Today my own store is a member of the American Gem Society. At Bernard Lewis & Co., we are educated in diamonds. Somebody has to be. Oh, and by the way, I did buy the diamond. And she did say, "Yes." And we've been married for 35 years!

Bernard Lewis & Co. is an independently-owned Jewelry store located at 313 Broadway in Downtown Paducah, KY.
